Engineered Garments shirt for sale here. Engineered Garments, designed by Daiki Suzuki and under the umbrella of Japanese company Nepenthes, manufactures their products exclusively in the United States, and almost entirely in New York City. Their idea is to take mainly military and work wear styles and infuse a sort of hybrid American-Japanese sensibility. Their designs are both timeless and highly functional.
In this case we have EG’s take on the classic henly shirt. It is one of those EG designs that is seemingly straightforward but actually has a fair amount going on and is highly considered. Fabric is 100% cotton in a medium weight. This is not a super light weight summer fabric but more of a year-round weight. Material is done in a striped knit. Note that on close inspection (and on the interior) you can see the actual woven threads making up the pattern. This is a higher quality execution, not just a cheap screen printed design. Chest pocket also intentionally creates a bit of a contrast in the design. Front has a two button closure with white cat’s eye buttons. One of the most interesting details for me is that the neckline and cuffs are lined in a heavier weight piping. You can’t really see it in the pics, but it makes for a nice tactile contrast. The bottom hem is also flat, including slits on both sides.
As always with EG these pieces were produced in limited quantities and are now long gone. This is one of those designs that can work across a large range of styles yet at the same time keeps the proceedings pretty interesting. Get it here at a fraction of the retail price as well.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true. I measure the chest at 20”, shoulders at 16”, and length at 26”. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in the USA.
