Hysteric Glamour cotton work jacket, made in Japan, size L (fits M)

$49.99

Up for sale here is a jacket from the Hysteric Glamour label. Hysteric Glamour has a long history in Japanese fashion, dating back to 1984. They have gone through several iterations in design, but have always looked to incorporate rock music style into their pieces. Hysteric Glamour have done a number of collaborations with high-profile and cult rock bands including Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, the Cramps, T Rex, and many many more. Their main inspiration comes from rock music from the 1960s through 80s in particular. The other side of Hysteric Glamour is the surprisingly high quality of materials they use. For a long time they have been a part of the Ozone Community company (who also used to manufacture a line called “ozone rocks”), who specialize in using organic materials.

This jacket is a bit more straightforward and avoids any direct musical references. Aside from band tees and prints, Hysteric Glamour also manufacture more straightforward and understated designs. The rock influence is still apparent, although this jacket is not beholden to any particular genre or style. Inspiration seems to come from classic work jackets with the material and construction elevated considerably.

Main fabric is 100% cotton in a standard weight, also fully lined in cotton in the body and polyester in the sleeves. I would consider this a medium weight jacket overall, not quite a light summer piece but definitely not an insulated winter piece either. It is good for year-round wear, provided you avoid extreme cold and heat. Details include a corduroy collar, large zip up the front, snap chest pockets with branded buttons, two side pockets, a throat latch allowing you to wear the collar up if you like, and a custom patch on the left sleeve. Hysteric Glamour has long enjoyed a cult following in Japan (and abroad), never compromising on the quality of their products. You can be sure you are getting a top quality piece here as well. Retail on these jackets is currently about $500 in Japan alone and more abroad if you can find them. Get one here much more reasonably.

Size is labeled a large but fits more like a standard medium. I measure the chest at 20.5” / 502cm, shoulders at 16.5” / 42cm, length at 26” / 66cm and sleeves at 24.5” / 62cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly worn, very good shape. The only issue to note is some marks on the fabric underneath the zipper (pictured) but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
