Up for sale here is a shirt from Issey Miyake. The Miyake label is a contemporary of Yohji Yamamoto and Comme Des Garcons, one of the original Japanese avant-garde labels that really popularized the Japanese textile industry abroad in the 70s and 80s. The label is of course still going strong. Miyake is highly conceptual and is responsible for the development of a variety of new textiles and incorporating a number of technical innovations into their pieces.
This shirt comes from the spring-summer 2023 collection. As always, the details here are very well considered. For one, the construction of the shirt is unique. While t-shirts normally have separate sections for the sleeves, this shirt is made up of two sections, basically a front and a back section with no sleeve or shoulder seams. The seams are still nicely curved and the fit works well but it is a novel way of constructing a shirt. The other big detail is the incorporation of a geometric print on the front. It looks like splatters of paint or something along those lines, only done on the front side of the shirt. Like Garcons and Yohji, Miyake never cuts any corners in terms of quality, and the label’s pieces are often ridiculously expensive at retail. This one is now long gone, and you can get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a 2 and fits like a regular medium. I measure the chest at 21” / 54cm, shoulders at approx. 18” / 47cm and length at 25” / 66cm from the base of the neck. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears, stains or obvious signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
