For sale here is a pair of pants from the Japan Blue jeans label. Japan Blue is one of the lines manufactured by Rampuya, the same company that does the Momotaro label. Both labels are very strongly jeans and indigo oriented, producing exclusively in the Kojima area of Japan, although the Momotaro label is probably more widely known and releases a fuller range. Japan Blue Jeans focuses mostly on jeans and denim jackets, but the same high quality production standards are still very much there, as are the really detailed and unique fabrics.
These pants are called the “soho trouser”. I guess the fit inspiration comes from vintage American work wear, where the fit is described as a “wide straight” fit. Top block is fairly loose with the pleats, while it slims down below the knees. The big draw here is the fabric, which is a 70% cotton, 15% acrylic, 15% polyester blend. Japan Blue describes the material as a nep denim, which sounds pretty accurate in this case. The weave of the denim is intentionally uneven, with white specs (the nep) visible throughout.
Japan blue can get pretty experimental in their textiles, incorporating banana, developing a denim tweed and experimenting with different types of dyes for example, and these pants fit in well. You won’t find a fabric quite like this anywhere else. Material is medium in weight in my opinion, not too heavy or too light.
Construction is one of Rampuya’s strong points as well, where they always build their piece super tough. All seams use tough chain stitching, and pockets are done in a heavy cotton canvas. These pants should be able to take a beating pretty well.
Size is labeled a 32 and fits true. I measure the waist 32” / 82cm, inseam at 27” / 68cm, rise at 12” / 30cm and opening at the bottom of the leg at 7” / 18cm. The pants come in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains, or obvious signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
