Up for sale here is a pair of pants from the Or Slow label, one of the perhaps smaller “American casual” labels going in Japan, but one that has managed to attract a pretty strong cult following. Or Slow mainly draws their inspiration from vintage military and work wear, where they often re-work and reinterpret classic pieces, adding their own unique stamp and aesthetic.
In this case we have Or Slow’s take on the classic indigo dyed five pocket jeans. Fabric is an original denim from Or Slow in 100% cotton. Material probably the main draw as well, as this denim has a lot of character to it, there is a very nice texture and little specs of white throughout. Or Slow constructs most of their pieces with aging in mind, where with additional wear these pants should continue to pleasantly fade and develop.
Silhouette is Or Slow’s 107 “ivy fit”. Design inspiration comes from 1960s era fits at US ivy-league universities, basically a somewhat slim, straightforward fit. It pairs easily with pretty much everything. You can go with a loose or a slim fitting top and jacket and the pants would look perfect either way. Details include selvedge line visible on the leg and coin pocket interior, branded waistband button, zip fly, and custom rear tag. There are no unnecessary details here – everything is in its place. Design is timeless and this will only get better with age. This particular version is Or Slow’s two year wash, made to look pleasantly broken in. Retail is about $325 outside of Japan, but get them here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a 2, an Or Slow medium. The waist has stretched a little bit, where it currently fits a 32 well. I measure the waist at 32” / 41cm, inseam at 29” / 74cm, rise at 10.5” / 27cm and leg opening at 7” / 18cm. The pants come in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains, and no visible fading beyond their original wash. Made in Japan.
