Neighborhood Japan 2011aw classic work shirt, size M

$34.99

Up for sale here is a shirt from Neighborhood, one of the longer-running Japanese streetwear labels. Neighborhood is the parent label of the somewhat more cultish Wtaps, although both hold very high standards for quality and production. To me, Neighborhood tends to gravitate more toward vintage workwear and biker gear for inspiration, where Wtaps is often more military or even ivy league sometimes.

Anyway, what we have here is Neighborhood’s “classic work shirt”, very much in the style of classic Americana. Vintage Americana is pretty much where Neighborhood looks for most of their inspiration, although they often put their own particular take on the classics. This shirt is based on the kind of shirts gas station attendants or mechanics would wear back in the day. These were often done in fairly cheap fabrics, but Neighborhood have elevated their version considerably.

Fabric is 100% cotton, coming in a medium weight weave. This is a quality material, I assume a long staple cotton. As usual with Neighborhood, they add a twist by incorporating a number of small details. Chest has an embroidered patch which I think says “Atl. Calif.”. Black cat’s eye buttons are used throughout, done in vegetable ivory, although the top button is a snap. Logo tags are included on the neck, left chest pocket and the bottom of the button placket. Right cuff has some additional embroidery as well.

Fit, materials and detailing are given the utmost care with Neighborhood. These pieces are always produced in limited quantities and don’t come cheap at retail. These shirts currently go for around $300 outside of Japan. Get it here for much less.

Size is labeled a medium and fits true if a bit slim. I measure the chest at 20”, shoulders at 16.5”, length at 27” and sleeves at 24” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
