Up for sale here is a pair of pants from Japanese label Sage de Cret. Sage de Cret have been around since 2001, although they are one of those more cultish labels that produces in small quantities and has limited international distribution. With Sage de Cret the emphasis is mainly on reimagining classic military wear. Think of a lot of khakis, military greens and military silhouettes and you get the general idea, although these are not straight reproductions. Quality is stepped up considerably, where they are fond of garment dyeing their clothing – that is, dyeing the sewn garment rather than the fabric before sewing the clothing together. Garment dyeing is a more time consuming and expensive process, but the depth of color and variation make the results a lot more interesting. Sage de Cret also like to play with the silhouettes of military styles, going for slimmed down and sometimes more relaxed fits.
These pants fit squarely in Sage de Cret’s range of influences. Silhouette seems to be based on the classic military chino, updated quite a bit in terms of pattern and quality. Material is 100% cotton, garment dyed a pleasantly uneven shade of gray. There is a sort of patchwork pattern throughout, with the incorporation of different sections for the knees and cargo pockets, as well as for the front and back pockets. The cargo pockets have their own zips with leather pulls, as does the hem and fly. The waist also has side adjusters to customize the fit to your preference.
If you are looking for something that is a bit subtle in its appeal yet still interesting this is a good piece for you. Retail was about $300 in Japan and more abroad if you could find it. Get it here at the cheapest price around.
Size is labeled a large and fits a 34 inch waist. I measure the waist at 34” / 88cm, inseam at 33” / 84cm, rise at 11” / 28cm, and leg opening at 8” / 20cm. The pants come in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
