For sale here is a jacket from Japan’s Snowpeak label. Snowpeak has a pretty long history in Japan, dating back to 1958, although they have expanded their presence abroad only recently. They are an outdoor specialty brand, producing all kinds of gear that one can use while camping, fishing or spending an extended period of time outdoors. In addition to things like tents, tables and tools, Snowpeak also produces a range of clothing similarly suited for outdoor use.
This is Snowpeak’s “insect shield” jacket from the spring-summer 2022 collection. The concept is both interesting and practical, where if you have spent any time outdoors in tropical or subtropical places (like Japan) in the summer, insects can be a big problem. Snowpeak offer a pretty unique solution here. We have what is largely a polyester mesh fabric, highly breathable and light in weight, with woven portions on stress points like the shoulders, neck, sleeves and pockets, reinforcing it and providing structure. There is a removable hood as well.
The most interesting part for me is the use of an anti-insect treatment with the fabric. Interior tag notes that the fabric has been treated with permethrin, an EPA-certified insecticide used to repel insects from clothing. This definitely has some practical benefit should you be spending time outdoors. The treatment should reportedly stay even if you wash the jacket, although you are not supposed to dry clean it.
Aside from the practical usage, this makes for a good warm weather jacket, helpful with holding your things and providing some protection from the elements (aside from insects). These pieces were produced in limited quantities and not at all cheap at retail, but get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a small and fits relaxed. I measure the chest at 22” / 56cm, shoulders at 19” / 49cm, length at 27” / 69cm and sleeves at 23” / 59cm. The jacket comes in lightly used, very good shape with otherwise no holes, tears or stains.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $28.
