Up for sale here is a coat from Japan’s Spellbound brand. Spellbound is one of those labels that’s based in Kojima, Japan’s clothing industry manufacturing hub and home to a considerable amount of garment making expertise (as well as a large selection of vintage looms). Spellbound is maybe on the smaller side of things even as far as Kojima brands go, where they don’t have their own dedicated shop, don’t do any advertising or publicity at all really, a minimal web presence, and have very limited distribution outside of Japan. Instead, they let their clothes do the talking. You can be sure any Spellbound piece is going to be very well produced, usually incorporating vintage manufacturing techniques and not cutting corners at any point. What you get is a fuss free garment, timeless in design and made to last.
That’s what we have with this jacket as well. Silhouette is based on the classic spring coat, where this one looks pretty British inspired to me. Material is a crispy 100% cotton exterior in a khaki, while the interior is fully lined in a 65% polyester, 35% cotton blend. Exterior is nicely smooth while the interior fabric has a very nice texture to it. This sort of jacket is intended to be pretty versatile: not too heavy but heavy enough to provide some cover, and to keep you dry in the rain.
Silhouette is classic and just slightly relaxed with four button closure down the front. All buttons are vegetable ivory, and cuffs have working buttons as well. Also features a single rear vent, two large exterior side pockets and some nice interior pockets too.
Size is labeled a 3, equivalent to a somewhat relaxed medium. I measure the chest at 22.5” / 57cm, shoulders at 18.5” / 47cm, length at 35.5” / 89cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 24.5” / 62cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, generally good shape. There is a bit of wear on the neckline, although it doesn’t photograph very well. Otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
