Up for sale here is a jacket from Japan’s Spellbound brand. Spellbound is one of those labels based in Kojima, Japan’s clothing industry manufacturing hub and home to a considerable amount of garment making expertise (as well as a large selection of vintage looms). Spellbound is maybe on the smaller side of things even as far as Kojima brands go, where they don’t have their own dedicated shop, don’t do any advertising or publicity at all really, maintain a minimal web presence, and have very limited distribution outside of Japan. Instead, they let their clothes do the talking. You can be sure any Spellbound piece is going to be very well produced, usually incorporating vintage manufacturing techniques and not cutting corners at any point. What you get is a fuss free garment, timeless in design and made to last.
In this case we have Spellbound’s take on the classic coverall jacket, a good warmer weather outer layer. Material is a black, light weight denim-like fabric. Material has a really nice texture to it, the sort of thing you find from vintage shuttle loom production. Front has a four button closure, where buttons look like some high quality vegetable ivory pieces. As is typical with Spellbound, construction is substantial throughout. It’s a good versatile piece, built tough and made to last.
Size is labeled a 3, equivalent to a standard medium. I measure the chest at 21” / 54cm, shoulders at 18.5” / 47cm, length at 30” / 77cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 26” / 66cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly uysed, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
