Up for sale here is a rare, grail level piece from the Stone Island label, one of the leading labels going at the moment, especially in terms of fabric development and dyeing technology. Stone Island have been active for quite a while now, originally designed by the highly influential Massimo Osti, and even now continue to push things forward in new and interesting ways.
This piece comes in Stone Island’s signature “nylon watro” fabric, given a bit of a twist. This much rarer model incorporates a “color weft” where the weft threads (basically the interior threads, contrasting with the exterior warp threads) are done in a completely different color. The jacket was released in a green and a pink weft, where this model is the pink weft. It is not reflective in the same way as their other reflective jackets. Rather, you have a seemingly solid blue fabric but when the light hits it in certain angles parts of the jacket turn pink. It is a completely unique effect, one I have only seen from Stone Island and one they have not repeated. Production of this fabric, as is often the case with Stone Island, was highly experimental and likely too expensive and complicated for mass production across multiple seasons.
The fabric is really the main attraction here and makes this very rare model well worth seeking out. Other details include adjustable cuffs, zipped chest pockets, removable arm badge with a location for storage in the interior and adjustable snaps on the waistband.
As you can hopefully see, there is a lot of work that went into this piece, both in terms of fabric and design. Of course, retail on any Stone Island products is far from cheap, and this model is especially rare. Retail was in the neighborhood of $1200. This particular model is completely sold out, but get it here at a much more reasonable price.
Size is labeled a large and fits true. I measure the chest at 21.5” / 55cm, shoulders at 18” / 46cm, length at 28” / 72cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 25” / 64cm from the shoulder. The piece comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Romania.
