Up for sale here is a shirt from the Sugar Cane label, a part of the Toyo Enterprise family of labels that includes Buzz Rickson, Sun Surf, Tailor Tokyo, Indian Motorcycle, and several others. Sugar Cane themselves manufacture a lot of Mister Freedom’s collections and distribute them in Japan. Needless to say, their credentials are very strong on the vintage-inspired, workwear-influenced Japanese clothing industry.
So what we have here is a plaid shirt from their “light” line. This is one of Sugar Cane’s newer lines, intended for wear during the warmer months. Fabric here is 100% cotton with a textured knit in a light weight, ideal for the warmer weather. Quality is strong throughout as you would expect, with a number of subtle details added. For one, material here is a knit cotton, where each color represents different colored thread. This isn’t a print like you find with some cheaper labels. Interior has red bobbin thread, while exterior has a blue needle thread. Has a woven neck label, single chest pocket, side gussets and chainseam run-off as well. Retail on this shirt was about $200 outside of Japan, although availability outside of Japan is extremely limited. Get it here in very good shape for a fraction of that.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true if a bit slim. I measure the chest at 20” / 51cm, shoulders at 17.5” / 45cm, length at 26” / 66cm in front and 28.5” / 72cm in back, both from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 25” / 63cm from the shoulder. The shirt comes in used but very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
