Up for sale here is a shirt from the Sunny Sports label. Sunny Sports is another one of those Japanese labels strongly influenced by vintage Americana and work wear. They run a pretty wide gamut of clothing, where they do their own iterations of military, work and sportswear, but like many they filter classic design through their own aesthetic. Quality and detailing are pretty respectful of the originals, while the silhouettes are often slimmed down for a more modern look.
In this case we have an indigo dyed patchwork shirt. Silhouette is based on the classic vintage-style button down shirt, executed here in several different indigo dyed prints. The prints you see are actually different fabrics, woven together in the patchwork style. Quality is very strong here, and alike any quality indigo piece this should pleasantly fade and develop with wear. Other details are kept pretty classic, with side gussets, and single chest pocket and curved hem.
This is one of those shirts with a very unique graphic sensibility, one you really won’t find anywhere else. Sunny Sports is one of those labels that has a pretty strong presence in Japan but at the same time has almost no international distribution. They release a pretty full range of clothing and are worth checking out in more detail.
Size is labeled a small and fits true if a bit loose. I measure the chest at 20”, shoulders at 16”, length at 25” in front and 27” in back, and sleeves at 23” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly worn, excellent shape with no holes tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
