Up for sale here is Undercover’s take on the classic plaid button down shirt. This iteration comes from the spring-summer 2012 season. The 2012ss season is one of several UC collections that largely flew under the radar in my opinion, blamed largely due to the look books I think. For some reason their styling wasn’t the greatest and the designs didn’t come through as well as they should have. Still, as usual you had a strong season from Jun Takashi, incorporating his signature punk rock and musical influences into some really high quality and excellently tailored pieces.
This shirt is a good case in point, where you have excellent quality materials and tailoring paired with a completely unique design. It’s something you can only find from Undercover. Material is a summer weight 100% rayon fabric. As you can see with the pattern, you have a sort of layered effect happening here, with the same plaid pattern used in different ways throughout the shirt. The top half/shoulders area uses one design, while the lower part uses a different design. The bottom portion has yet another rotation of the fabric to complete the effect. This is one of those designs that pops up for just one season never to be seen again. It hasn’t been revisited by undercover and is now completely sold out.
Other details here include horn buttons, the characteristic UC silhouette that’s a bit slim in the arms and long in the body, and a custom neck tag that was unique for this season (and I think also reused the following season). Retail on these shirts was about $300 in Japan, more abroad if you could find them.
Size is labeled a 2, fitting a medium well in my opinion. I measure the chest at 20” / 51cm, shoulders at 17” / 43cm, length at 31” / 79cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 24.5” / 62cm from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or obvious signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
