For sale here is a sweater from Jun Takahashi’s Undercoverism label. Undercoverism is one of the Undercover’s more recent sub-labels. While Undercover is well regarded for fusing a strong musical influence with high fashion quality and detailing, the Undercoverism label is all about distorting the elements that make up clothing in an unbalanced, asymmetrical and irregular way. It is a very conceptual idea, looking to find the balance between perfection and imperfection.
This sweater comes from Undercoverism’s 2021aw collection, featuring one of Takahashi’s iconic graphic prints. You can very likely read some symbolism into the picture if you feel so inclined but the graphic is already striking on its own. Material is 100% cotton in a standard sweater weight. Silhouette has been elongated compared to a more typical sweater, where this one intentionally fits longer. Quality is apparent as usual, and like all Undercover pieces these were produced in limited quantities and very expensive at retail.
The sweater is labeled a size 2, fitting a standard medium well. I measure the chest at 21” / 53cm, shoulders at 19” / 48cm, length at 28” / 72cm and sleeves at 24” / 61cm. The sweater comes in used condition, with what appear to be some light bleach stains throughout (see pictures for details). In my opinion the stains do not detract from the overall design and this is the sort of piece that will look great with more wear and tear. Still, price reflects condition. Made in Japan.
