Up for sale here is a jacket from French workwear label Vetra. There are a number of similar French heritage labels offering no-fuss, well made and timeless pieces (which are often still somehow made in France). These include labels like Danton, Laboureur and Orcival. Vetra definitely fits in the same mold, where they’ve been producing quality work wear in France for quite a while now.
Silhouette here is based on the classic overcoat, done in a medium weight cotton tweed. Tweeds are normally done in wool, with a variety of colors used to make some really intricate and highly regarded designs. However, tweed does not need to be limited to woolens, and there are some really nice, high quality cotton tweeds out there that are especially useful outside of the winter months. Still, weight here is definitely heavier than a standard cotton, insulating but at the same time not super heavy duty. As such, I believe this is a good fall/spring piece, coming in at just the right weight not to over-heat you, but at the same time still nicely resilient.
Silhouette stays pretty faithful to the over coat, with a high buttoning closure, and two diagonal side pockets. This is a no-fuss, classic design. The sort of thing the French are best at: classy, highly functional, timeless, and effortlessly cool. This will go with pretty much everything, keep you comfortable, and will work really well as a layering piece. It is also worth noting that, as you can see on the tag, this piece is a part of Vetra’s ongoing collaboration with the United Arrows shop in Japan. This jacket was limited to sales through United Arrows and I have not seen this particular fabric elsewhere from Vetra. It is really a beautiful piece, one you are not likely to come across elsewhere.
Size is labeled a 40 and fits a medium well. I measure the chest at 21” / 53cm, shoulders at 18” / 46cm, length at 34” / 87cm and sleeves at 23” / 58cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in France.
