Needles by Nepenthes knit cotton plaid shirt, size S (fits M)

$39.99

Available here is a shirt from the Needles label, one of the Nepenthes family of brands that includes Engineered Garments, South 2 West 8, the Rebuild by Needles brand and likely a number of others. Nepenthes always keeps their designs rooted in vintage and workwear territory, although they also allow for a lot of exploration in their designs. Each of their various labels have their own particular focus, where the Needles label, at least in my opinion, looks to 60s and 70s designs.

What we have here is a pretty strongly 60s-inspired design. We have a sort of tartan plaid throughout, with a pretty straightforward design for the most part. This is a mid weight fabric, probably not ideal for the peak of the summer but should work well for the rest of the year. Fit and detailing sticks pretty close to 1960s style, with offset plaid pockets and a straight hem at the bottom. Needles pieces are never produced in large quantities and do not come cheap at retail. Japanese retail on these shirts is in the neighborhood of $300. This would have been more abroad if you could find it. Get it here in excellent shape for a fraction of that.

Size is labeled a small and fits like a standard medium. I measure the chest at 21”, shoulders at 16”, length at 26” from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 24” from the shoulder. The shirt comes in used but excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
