For sale here is a t-shirt from Wtaps, in this case their spring-summer 2013 “philosophy” collection. Wtaps is pretty interesting in the Japanese fashion world, as they straddle a number of different points. They specialize in a lot of re-purposed military wear, for example, but at the same time appeal to the “street fashion” aesthetic that made a lot of Japanese labels famous in the 1990s and early 2000s. They’ve put out preppy American-inspired collections, biker-inspired wear, traditional British clothing, and any number of other subgroups have also been given attention. They also have their own unique design sensibility that makes all of these elements work. Wtaps has consequently garnered a large cult following in Japan (and abroad) arguably eclipsing their parent label Neighborhood.
So what we have here is their signature print from the Philosophy collection. Front and back both have large text prints, and there is a fair amount of additional detailing going on. Both sleeves have some small embroidered details, with a red logo tab on the left sleeve. Front has a white tag at the bottom, and the neck has a printed logo as well.
Retail on these shirts was around $125 outside of Japan if you could find them, but they went real quick. Wtaps always produces in very limited quantities, with even more limited distribution outside of Japan. Once things are gone they are typically not coming back. Get it here while you can at a fraction of the retail.
Size is labeled a small. I measure the chest at 18”, shoulders at 16” and length at 25”. The shirt comes in used but very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
