Up for sale here is a pair of pants from the A Vontade label. A Vontade has been active since around 2011, making them a somewhat newer label, although they are one of the brands that mines vintage work, sports and military wear as points of inspiration in developing their clothing. For A Vontade the emphasis is on everyday casual wear, the sort of things you can wear to work or around the house, nothing too formal. They design with longevity in mind, making pieces that are timeless in design and that will only get better with age.
Here we have some indigo dyed jeans in a fairly light weight 100% cotton fabric. Silhouette follows the classic chinos pretty closely with a nice casual look and a straight leg fit. Fabric takes center stage here – the knit gives the denim a really nice texture and the indigo dye takes it up a level. Like any quality indigo it will pleasantly develop and fade with wear, and the dye is already pleasantly uneven with a lot of character to it. Details include selvedge line on the leg interiors, waistband lined in a very nice khaki herringbone twill cotton, metal buttons on the fly and corozo nut buttons on the rear pockets.
Like many of their contemporaries, A Vontade is a smaller label with very limited international distribution. So far they have flown largely under the radar outside of Japan but are well worth checking out in more detail. These pants retail at about $250 in Japan, but get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a medium and fits a 32 inch waist well. I measure the waist at 32” / 82cm, inseam at 31” / 79cm, rise at 11” / 28cm and leg opening at 7” / 18cm. The pants come in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
