Available here is a pair of pants from Comme Des Garcons’ Black line. From what I understand, the black line re-purposes some of the classic designs from Comme Des Garcons’ long history, updating the fit and putting pretty much everything in black (hence the name). Like most CDG, perhaps with the exception of the Play line, availability of these pieces is pretty limited. Outside of Japan you can only get them at the few CDG select shops like Dover Street Market or CDG’s other boutiques. Even in Japan the black line is often separate from the CDG mainline, Homme and Junya Watanabe, and relatively less common.
All that said, what you have here is an interesting take on the classic pair of pants, done with CDG’s typical avant-garde approach. Silhouette is pretty straightforward, a somewhat loose fitting chino silhouette. The twist comes with the coloring, where the front of the pants and waistband are done in gray while the rear is a solid black. It is a simple yet effective contrast, something you definitely do not encounter from other labels. It is also worth noting that the gray fabric is a 65% polyester / 35% cotton blend, while the rear black fabric is 100% cotton.
As noted, Comme des Garcons is one of those labels that always manufactures in limited quantities, can be very hard to track down, and has ridiculously high retail prices. Get a rare piece here at the cheapest price around.
Size is labeled a medium and fits a 32 inch waist well. I measure the waist at 32” / 84cm, inseam at 29.5” / 75cm, rise at 10.5” / 26cm and leg opening at 8.75” / 22cm. The pants come in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
