For sale here is a pair of pants from the Comme des Garcons Homme Deux collection. Comme des Garcons is one of Japan’s biggest and most well-established fashion labels, dating back to the 1970s with designer Rei Kawakubo. These days they have a whole universe of labels including Homme, Homme Plus, Play, Shirt, Junya Watanabe, CDG, and many many more. The Homme Deux is one of CDG’s newer labels, re-starting in 2009 and maintaining a similar focus on casual wear done as usual through CDG’s very particular aesthetic. There are lots of blazers, work pants and shirts of all sorts, often with a strong attention to detail, incorporating unique processes and sometimes incorporating a patchwork approach.
These pants come from the Homme Deux 2010 spring-summer collection. They are seemingly simple summer chinos but there is actually a fair amount going on here. Probably the most interesting thing for me is the fabric, which comes in a 61% linen, 39% nylon blend. It is pretty unusual to see nylon incorporated with linen, and even more unusual to have such a high nylon content. Being mostly linen the pants are very light in weight and breathable, while the nylon adds strength to the fabric and keeps it nicely resilient.
Another interesting point with these pants is the dyeing. Pants have been garment dyed a dark shade of blue. Rather than dyeing the material before construction, these pants have been dyed afterward, creating a unique depth of color. Interior label and pockets are also overdyed as a result of this process. At the same time the threading used is most likely polyester, which is unaffected by the dye. The result is a really nice contrast between the dark fabric and white thread. It is something of a CDG signature actually. CDG has played around quite a bit with different fabric treatments, dyes and processing, something they actually do not get enough credit for.
In all this is one of those pieces that hits all of the marks CDG is known for – interesting, artistic design that is well considered and highly original. These pants retailed at about $500 outside of Japan if you could find them but get them here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true. I measure the waist at 32” / 84cm, inseam at 28” / 71cm, rise at 11” / 28cm and leg opening at 8” / 20cm. The pants come in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
