Up for sale here is a shirt from the Comme des Garcons Shirt label. Comme des Garcons runs a number of labels, many with different and often highly specific themes. The Shirt lines keeps things pretty basic for the most part, focusing often on shirting as their name implies, and also manufacturing largely in France. CDG has always had a European influence, at least in my opinion, and it’s something emphasized with the shirt label. As always with the CDG universe, production is pretty small, availability outside of Japan very limited, and retail prices are ridiculously high.
In this case we have a pretty unique iteration of the classic tee, given a somewhat skewed look. The body is a pretty straightforward gray tee, while the twist comes in the construction. Front has a patchwork style knit, while the body is asymmetrically constructed. If you notice on the center front and back seams they are slightly askew on the top and bottom. The gray fabric comes in a 98% cotton, 2% polyurethane blend, while the more colorful knit portion is 100% cotton.
Design is very much in keeping with CDG’s emphasis on artful deconstruction, giving new ideas about what constitutes clothing and completed garments. As always with these kinds of pieces, availability in and outside of Japan was extremely limited. The Shirt line is arguably harder to come by compared to the Homme Plus runway line as well, but get an excellent piece here at a fraction of the retail price.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true if a bit slim. There is a bit of stretch to the fabric but unstretched I measure the chest at 19” / 48cm, shoulders at 18” / 46cm, and length at 25.5” / 65cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in France.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
