For sale here is a shirt the Cosmic Wonder label. Cosmic Wonder is one of those more avant-garde Japanese labels, willfully obscure although with limited distribution in a handful of boutiques outside of Japan. They’re a bit unique in that they tend to be pretty strongly promoted in the arts community and some of the more out-there musicians. They have a strong artistic bend actually, where their shop in Tokyo doubles as an art gallery with various exhibitions. Their clothing designs are always forward thinking and they tend to incorporate a lot of hand-made embellishments into their work. Production is of course extremely limited and retail prices crazy high.
This is Cosmic Wonder’s take on the t-shirt, given some very unique details. Fabric is a 70% organic cotton / 30% linen blend, executed in a nicely textured khaki color. One of the big details is the patchwork construction on the front and back sides. The lines are very clean and geometric, yet at the same time subtle enough not to immediately draw one’s attention. In lieu of a neck tag they use a hand-stitched circle motif, and the neckline also has a button on the side to make it easier to take on and off.
As with most Cosmic Wonder pieces, a considerable amount of thought has gone into this piece, and the quality is hopefully apparent. This is one of those labels that has developed a strong cult following, but has largely flown under the radar outside of Japan. Get a rare piece here in excellent shape and at a fraction of the retail price.
Size is labeled a 4, fitting relaxed and somewhere between a medium and a large depending on how you like the fit. I measure the chest at 23” / 58cm, shoulders at 24” / 62cm, and length at 27” / 68cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, generally good shape. Only one thing to note: there is a small white stain on the front of the shirt (pictured). Otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
