Up for sale here is a shirt from Japanese label Dry Bones. The Dry Bones brand, like a number of smaller “American casual” Japanese labels, is pretty strongly influenced by vintage workwear. Where Dry Bones is a bit different, however, is in their application of influences. They’re very strongly rock-and-roll influenced, and equally likely to incorporate more traditional Japanese imagery into their designs. What you end up with is the quality, detailing and workmanship Japanese labels are known for, but also a pretty unique vintage-influenced design aesthetic that’s pretty strongly their own vision.
This is Dry Bones’s take on the classic button down shirt. Design seems to be pretty strongly vintage inspired, although there are some interesting little details added. Material is 100% cotton, done in a medium weight, heavier than your standard cotton. Fabric has a really nice weave to it, which appears to be a really fine blue and red material woven together.
There are a lot of vintage-style details incorporated. Collar and neckline are reinforced on the interior in a while cotton canvas. There is a small chin strap added as well, which makes for a nice contrast with the white interior fabric. Chest has asymmetric pockets, both of which are buttoned. Button placket is curved toward the bottom and there are side gussets incorporated as well.
Like a lot of the smaller Japanese labels, Dry Bones produces in very limited quantities, with limited availability even in Japan. They operate a handful of shops themselves, and as far as I know they’re not distributed to any other shops in Japan. They’ve got very limited distribution abroad as well. This shirt retailed in the $150 range in Japan (would have been more abroad if you could find it) and is now long gone. Get it here while you can for a fraction of that.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true. I measure the chest at 21.5” / 55cm, shoulders at 17.5” / 45cm, length at 26” / 66cm in front and 27” / 69cm in back, both from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 22” / 56cm from the shoulder. The shirt comes lightly used, generally good shape. There is a small snag at the bottom of the button placket, but otherwies no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $26.
