Available here is a shirt from Visvim, this one from their fall-winter 2017 collection, known as the “USM numbering” shirt. Visvim is one of the best-known Japanese labels going at the moment, known for producing some of the highest quality pieces out there. They really spare no expense on their materials in particular, where they combine traditional manufacturing techniques with new technologies, creating completely unique, beautiful pieces in the process. Their retail prices are also some of the highest out there, but you can be sure you’re getting some value for that high cost.
Material here is a long staple cotton, given Visvim’s signature vintage treatment. The long staple cotton makes the fabric soft but at the same time much harder-wearing and more resilient than a more standard material. It’s one of those differences that you can’t necessarily see with your eyes, but something easily experienced when worn. Color is a purple-blue, with some artful fading throughout with the vintage processing. Silhouette is a more standard, somewhat relaxed fit. Visvim has been producing baggier silhouettes more recently, so if you are into their more straightforward (although not slim) fits, this is a very good piece in one of their rarer designs.
As always with Visvim, there are all kinds of details. Nicely contrasting vegetable ivory buttons are used throughout. Front has a stenciled logo, and I believe the numbers stenciled on are piece-unique. The stenciling is hand-done as well. Like all Visvim these pieces were produced in very limited quantities, retailing at about $500 in Japan and even more abroad. Get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a 2 and fits a medium well. I measure the chest at 21.5” / 54cm, shoulders at 17” / 43cm, length at 27.5” / 71cm, and shoulders at 24” / 61cm. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
