Up for sale here is a pair of jeans from Japan’s Eternal label, one of the somewhat older and more established “American casual” labels operating out of Japan. Eternal steers pretty strongly toward denim pieces, as they manufacture quite a few jeans and denim jackets, although they produce a full range of clothing as well. Eternal is based in the Kojima district in western Japan, basically the center of Japan’s workwear and denim industries, and is able to take advantage of the expertise available in the region. Kojima seems to have a strong concentration of very specialized production, particularly vintage looms, hence the concentration of denim manufacturers in the area. Like a number of other labels based in the city, including Kapital, Momotaro and Spellbound, most Eternal pieces are done on vintage looms as well.
So in this case we have a pretty unique pair of jeans, definitely with their own unique twist. Silhouette is based on the classic five pocket jean, indigo dyed with all of the normal detailing you would expect. What really sets these jeans apart, however, is the fabric. This is a highly textured, woven 100% cotton material, one with a lot more character than you typically see. This is one of those fabrics that is woven on vintage low tension shuttle looms, allowing the fabric to really come alive and show some of the unique potentials and variations you can only find from Japanese denim specialists. Fabric already shows some fading of the indigo but if anything it demonstrates the unique, more horizontal fading this particular fabric has.
Other details here include many of the classic denim details: rivets on all pockets including hidden rivets on the rear pockets, custom leather patch on the rear, custom buttons used on the waistband and fly, and a red tab on the rear right pocket. This is a straight leg fit, neither too loose nor too baggy. Weight is standard, somewhere around 10 to 12 oz would be my guess. This is a very rare model by a brand that is pretty difficult to track down already. Get something unique and different here at the cheapest price around.
Size is labeled a 32 and fits true. I measure the waist at 32” / 84cm , inseam at 26.5” / 68cm, rise at 10.5” / 26cm and opening at the bottom of the leg at 8.5” / 21cm. The pants come in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Just some fading of the indigo. Made in Japan.
