For sale here is as snap button, western-style shirt from the Flat Head. The Flat Head are one of the perhaps better known Japanese “repro” brands out there. That is, they specialize in reproductions of classic American vintage and workwear. But like the best of the repro labels, they add quite a bit. While the designs may be timeless, the detailing and quality are in another class. That’s where the Flat Head excels.
This shirt is one of their classic westerns. Material is a light weight cotton. The fabric weave is very unusual here, as it is done in a sort of uneven texture. This is likely one of those loomed pieces done super old school. If you look at the detailed pics, you can see quite a bit going on with the color and weave. All of the colors are actual threads woven into the fabric. However they pulled this off, it really brings the material to another level. Other details include substantial mother of pearl snap buttons, selvedge side gussets, and selvedge line visible on the interior. It is actually pretty unusual to incorporate selvedge on a woven shirt, but Flat Head always like to go the extra mile.
The Flat Head has limited availability even in Japan, and can only be found at a handful of very specific specialty shops abroad. For those in the know they’re well worth it, but these shirts retail in the $300 range outside of Japan. Get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a 38. Fit is like a standard small. I measure the chest at 19” / 49cm, shoulders at 18” / 46cm, and length at 26” / 66cm in the front and 27” / 69cm in the back, both from the base of the neck. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
