Up for sale here is a shirt from Issey Miyake. The Miyake label is a contemporary of Yohji Yamamoto and Comme Des Garcons, one of the original Japanese avant-garde labels that really popularized the Japanese textile industry abroad in the 70s and 80s. The label is of course still going strong. Miyake is highly conceptual and is responsible for the development of a variety of new textiles and incorporating a number of technical innovations into their pieces.
This shirt comes from the spring-summer 2021 collection. The main draw here is the treatment given to the shirt, where the fabric started out as a solid blue and has been subject to some artful bleaching with the white pattern you see throughout. This is not a print or anything like that, but the white portions of the shirt are either bleached or undyed, while the rest of the shirt is a solid blue. It makes for a very nice contrast, and coupled with the very high quality fabric you have got something special here. Like Garcons and Yohji, Miyake never cuts any corners in terms of quality, and the label’s pieces are often ridiculously expensive at retail. This one is now long gone, and you can get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a 2 and fits like a regular medium in this case. I measure the chest at 19.5” / 50cm, shoulders at 17” / 43cm and length at 25.5” / 65cm from the base of the neck. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears, stains or obvious signs of wear. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
