Up for sale here is a pair of pants from the Japan Blue Jeans label. Japan Blue is a part of the Rampuya company, the same people responsible for Momotaro Jeans and is in fact a sister label of Momotaro. Like Momotaro, Japan Blue places a strong emphasis on high quality, resilient manufacturing and an equally strong use of denim and indigo products. All of their pieces are built tough and made to last, with no corners cut. Japan Blue also tends to have some interesting experimental pieces, trying out different kinds of dyes and fabrics, incorporating them into classic jeans-based fits.

What we have here is Japan Blue’s JB0304 model of jeans, released originally in 2018 I believe. These jeans have a pretty straight forward silhouette, coming in what they call a “baguette” cut, a somewhat slim tapered fit. The twist comes in the material, which is 100% cotton using a brown mixed African cotton in a 12.5oz weight. A lot of Japanese labels use Zimbabwe cotton, although it is usually a characteristic off-white rather than brown and indigo dyed. This fabric has also been indigo dyed but with wear the natural core of the brown cotton wefts will start to appear as the indigo warps begin to fade. The result should be some pretty interesting fading.

Other details include a red selvedge ID, Japan Blue’s signature blue inseam thread, zip fly and branded waistband button, a branded metal tag on the rear right pocket, and unlike the foreign market version this one comes with a rear leather patch and their standard solid pocket bags. Although Japan Blue is a bit cheaper than some other labels at retail, it is hardly a cheap brand to purchase, especially outside of Japan. Get a rare model here at the cheapest price around.

Size is labeled a 32 and fits true. I measure the waist at 32” / 82cm, inseam at 30” / 76cm, rise at 8.5” / 22cm and leg opening at 7.5” / 17cm. The pants come in lightly used, very good shape. There is a bit of wrinkling of the fabric but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
