For sale here is a sweater from the Original Fake line, a Japanese-based clothing line that was a collaboration between American artist Kaws, the Japanese label Nexus VII and produced by the Medicom Toy line. It ran from to 2006 to 2013 and was an interesting collaboration to be sure. You basically had Kaws’ artwork incorporated into a lot of interesting designs, always of very high quality. Like many Japanese brands then and now, production was extremely limited, with only one Original Fake dedicated shop located on a side street in Aoyama, Tokyo.
What we have here is a knit sweater in cotton. The main body of the sweater is a subtle blue and white knit. The main twist comes in the incorporation of the side patterns. It references a traditional argyle knit, but is actually Kaws’ signature “X” motif. It’s a subtle detail to be sure, but one of those things that definitely turns heads for those in the know. The rear also has a small logo tag that incorporates Kaws’ “chompers” graphic.
Size is labeled a 4 and fits like a medium. I measure the chest at 20” / 51cm, shoulders at 18” / 46cm, length at 24” / 61cm and sleeves at 24” / 61cm from the shoulder. The sweater comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear. Made in Japan.
