Available here is a shirt from Post Overalls. Post Overalls is one of the longer-running Japanese-American hybrid brands. That is, Post Overalls has a Japanese designer, Tsuyoshi Obuchi, but are based in the United States and mainly produce their clothing in the US (and also Japan). There are increasingly more such designers, including engineered garments, yuketen, and battenwear, to name a few. Inspiration is firmly in classic Americana and vintage work, sports and military wear, done in their own particular aesthetic.
This is Post Overalls’ take on the classic button down plaid shirt, done in a typically high level of quality. Material is a medium thick cotton weave in blue, green and black. It is the sort of piece where you can see the individual threads woven together on close inspection. Silhouette follows the classic flannel pretty closely, although there are some interesting details incorporated. For one, substantial chain stitch construction in a nicely contrasting white stitch is used throughout. This keeps everything nicely in place and adds some additional texture to the fabric. Front has slightly asymmetric chest pockets, with a pen slot on the right pocket, there are side gussets with chain stitch runoff, contrasting white cat’s eye buttons used throughout, and an additional Post Overalls tag on the inside of the button placket.
Post Overalls is one of those labels that gives a great amount of consideration to all aspects of their clothing, manufacturing at a very high level of quality and making some vintage inspired yet totally unique designs. This model is now sold out, but get it here at a fraction of the retail price.
Size is labeled a small and fits true. I measure the chest at 20” / 51cm, shoulders at 16” / 41cm, length at 27” / 69cm and sleeves at 23” / 59cm from the shoulder. The shirt comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in the USA.
