Up for sale here is a jacket from Japanese label Sassafras. Active since 2004, Sassafras fills a pretty unique niche in that they design clothes ostensibly for gardening. That is, they make very high quality, functional daily wear inspired by vintage outdoor clothing. They are one of those labels that has developed a pretty strong cult following in Japan, but has very little publicity and next to no distribution outside of Japan.

This is a jacket done through Sassafras’ particular aesthetic. We have an indigo dyed denim fabric, incorporated with a variety of pockets ideal for storing your gardening equipment or really anything for that matter. Weight is a standard denim, somewhere around 10 to 12 ounces and ideal for year-round wear.

All kinds of pockets are added here, including pockets on top of or within other pockets. On the bottom are two large side pockets. These pockets have side entry, as well as top buttoned entry which goes into a different section of the pocket. In addition to that there are pockets on top of these large side pockets adding additional storage. There are two additional chest pockets, along with pen slots for each of the chest pockets. Pockets are reinforced on the interior. Metal buttons are used throughout, and there are buttons added to the sides, where you can have them unbuttoned to open up the fit some. Sleeves are reinforced on the bottom and there is an additional logo tag on the rear.

As you can hopefully see Sassafras designs are quite detailed with a strong eye toward functional details. They are one of those labels that has almost non-existent distribution outside of Japan but are well worth checking out. Get a very nice piece here at a fraction of the retail price.

Size is labeled a medium and fits true. I measure the chest at 20.5” / 52cm, shoulders at 17.5” / 45cm, length at 28.5” / 73cm, and sleeves at 25” / 63cm. The jacket comes in lightly used, very good shape. There is maybe some minor fading of the indigo, but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
