For sale here is a jacket from Japan’s Snowpeak label. Snowpeak has a pretty long history in Japan, dating back to 1958, although they have expanded their presence abroad only recently. They are an outdoor specialty brand, producing all kinds of gear that one can use while camping, fishing or spending an extended period of time outdoors. In addition to things like tents, tables and tools, Snowpeak also produces a range of clothing similarly suited for outdoor use.
This is Snowpeak’s “flexible insulated hoody” jacket from the fall-winter 2022 collection. It is flexible in the sense that it can be worn on its own as an outer layer or easily layered under a coat to provide insulation. This is actually a very good insulating winter piece. Fabric is very light in weight and comfortable, yet at the same time it is very warm. Exterior is nylon, while the interior and lining are done in polyester. The polyester has some advantages over down in that it is less bulky and thus more easily layered, it is more breathable, and it retains its heat retention properties better when wet. For me, I love using these kinds of insulting jackets as a mid layer in the winter months, where you can keep warm and also wear your favorite unlined jackets and coats for a longer period of time.
Snowpeak has increased its international distribution in recent years but is still not the easiest label to come across and retail is not especially cheap. Retail on these pieces is about $300 in Japan alone and they go for even more abroad.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true if a bit relaxed. I measure the chest at 23” / 58cm, shoulders at 19” / 48cm, length at 26.5” / 67cm and sleeves at 24” / 61cm. The jacket comes in lightly used, very good shape. There is just a bit of wear on the back (see last pic) but otherwise no holes, tears or stains.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $28.
