Available here is a jacket from the venerable Studio d’Artisan label. SDA is one of the original “Osaka 5”, dating back to the late 1970s and holding a very strong influence over the Japanese denim/workwear industry. SDA was one of the first to actually manufacture jeans in Japan, were one of the first labels to put Japanese denim and workwear on the map, and they’ve consistently kept their quality and designs very high since.
So what we have here is a pretty unique take on the classic military M65 field jacket. Studio d’Artisan have a long history of doing the classics, and you can get some really excellent straightforward jeans and jackets from them, but they also do some really unique interpretations of the classics, which are arguably more interesting. In this case the silhouette follows the original pretty closely, but adds some interesting details. For one, the material is a navy blue cotton, definitely not the standard military-issued green colorway, but also something that sets it apart from the crowd. Perhaps more interestingly, the fabric has been paraffin coated to make it highly water resistant. This gives the jacket some useful practical applications, working well in rain or shine.
Other details include a cotton lining, snap button pockets, snap button and zip closure, pulls on the waist to adjust the fit, Velcro cuffs, and quite a bit more (although it is worth noting that this model does not include a hood). Retail was about $320 in Japan, definitely more abroad if you could find it. Get it here much more reasonably.
Size is labeled a 40 and fits between a medium and a large in my opinion. I measure the chest at 21” / 53cm, shoulders at 18” / 45cm, length at 28.5” / 72cm and sleeves at 25” / 63cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes in used, generally good shape. There is some wear throughout with some visible fading, and a small stain on the left arm. Otherwise no holes, tears or stains. The jacket is nicely broken in, and this is the sort of piece that is made with wear in mind. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $32.
