Up for sale here is a nylon parka from the Sunny Sports label. Sunny Sports is another one of those Japanese labels strongly influenced by vintage Americana and work wear. They run a pretty wide gamut of clothing, where they do their own iterations of military, work and sportswear, but like many they filter classic design through their own aesthetic. Quality and detailing is pretty respectful of the originals, while the silhouettes are often slimmed down for a more modern look.
This piece is a collaboration with the Jack & Marie label from 2017. Jack & Marie are a somewhat limited production line in Japan, centered around the car lifestyle. Not only do they produce a small range of clothing, but also various types of car accessories. What we have here is Sunny Sports’ take on the classic mountain parka. Fabric is 100% nylon in a green olive drab color. Being nylon the material is light in weight and highly water resistant. It is ideal for the fall and spring, especially if dealing with stormy weather. This is the sort of piece that you can pack very easily and throw it on.
Details include two large patch pockets at the bottom, as well as two semi-hidden chest pockets above. The patch pockets have both top and side entry. Front has a large zip under a storm flap with snap buttons. Cuffs are adjustable with snaps as well, and all snaps are branded. Neck and waist both have drawstrings to adjust the fit. Neck has both Jack & Marie and Sunny Sports tag, and interior has a custom tag unique to the collection as well.
Sunny Sports on their own has extremely limited international distribution at the moment, although these collaborative pieces are even more limited and were only available from Jack & Marie’s three shops in Japan. To my knowledge there was no international distribution of these jackets, making them quite rare.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true if a bit relaxed. I measure the chest at 22.5”, shoulders at approx. 18”, length at 27” from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 24” from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears, stains or visible signs of wear.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $28.
