Available here is a pair of jeans from the APC label, a well-known French brand that produces some really high quality basics. They incorporate the classic French design aesthetics, going for excellent fits and quality above superfluous detailing. The result is an effortless cool. Something that fits well, looks good, but at the same time doesn’t call too much attention to itself.
APC has been around for a while, originally doing the vast majority of production exclusively in France. That has unfortunately been changing in recent years, where a lot of their production has been moving to developing countries with perhaps lower labor standards (although their quality is still pretty high). These jeans are from the earlier period of APC: cut is their “standard”, in fact no longer in production. Now they offer the “new standard”. Fit is basically the same, where we have a somewhat slim straight cut with both. The difference is in the production, where the Standards were done in Japan. Newer versions are usually done in Vietnam or Macau.
Not to discount the quality of their newer jeans, but the Standard is what put APC on the map. It’s a classic indigo-dyed selvedge, in a cut that will go with pretty much everything and a weight that allows year-round wear. For a straightforward jean at a reasonable price, it’s hard to beat. This model is in fact what Hedi Slimane later copied for the Dior Homme label and gained considerable prominence as a result.
Size is labeled a 36. I measure the waist at 33” / 86cm, inseam at 31” / 80cm, rise at 11” / 28cm and opening at the bottom of the leg at 8” / 21cm. The pants come in used but good shape. There is some visible fading of the indigo, but if anything it enhances the look here. They’re nicely aged but of course with plenty of life left. Some fading is visible around the knees, rear and cuffs. It is also worth noting that the right pocket has some interior damage including a hole toward the bottom. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
