Up for sale here is a summer weight jacket from the Freemans Sporting Club label. Freemans Sporting Club is somewhere between a Japanese and an American label. They have bases in New York and Tokyo, and do manufacturing in both places. Design seems to skew more toward classic Americana, although it is often filtered through a uniquely Japanese aesthetic.
This is a pretty unique piece here from FSC, a military-style safari jacket that has been elevated with some really excellent materials. The main fabric is an 86% cotton, 14% silk blend in a ripstop grid pattern. It is pretty unusual to see silk incorporated with a cotton jacket. The silk here gives the fabric a very soft feel, while at the same time increasing its resilience. Silk is noted for its strength as well as its softness, and in this case it should make for a nicely tough piece. The ripstop grid pattern adds further resiliency. Ripstop is essentially densely woven fabric in a grid pattern. The grid helps to stop any abrasions from tearing further, hence the name. It makes for a very strong fabric, actually used by the US military.
Other details here include shell buttons throughout, two chest pockets and two side pockets, all with expansion gussets, and adjustable cuffs. As noted on the tag (in Japanese), this particular model of jacket was produced for the Urban Research shop, a “select shop” that stocks a variety of international brands in addition to their own house label. As far as I know this jacket was unavailable elsewhere.
Size is labeled a medium and fits true. I measure the chest at 20.5” / 52cm, shoulders at 18” / 45cm, length at 28.5” / 72cm and sleeves at 23” / 58cm. The jacket comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
