Jil Sander Tailor Made brown cotton blazer, made in Italy, size 48

$69.99 Sold out

Up for sale here is a blazer from Jil Sander. This comes from their tailor made range, as you can see on the interior tag. The Jil Sander label is well known for their super high quality production, top-notch tailoring and minimalist aesthetic. The label is a contemporary of designers like Helmut Lang and Raf Simons (who actually was head designer for Jil Sander at one point), although it is still going strong, with a very different aesthetic, and remains as extremely expensive at retail as it has always been.

The tailor made range is exactly as the name implies, where pieces are made by a single tailor in Italy, using traditional methods and materials. None of this is machine-made and none of it is the sort of sweatshop labor you see with cheaper labels (and some designer labels as well). Vintage Jil Sander was all about quality, often uncompromisingly so. The downside is that this quality does not come cheap, and Jil Sander’s pricing was up in the stratosphere. The difference is that the quality and tailoring are consistently there, as opposed to some others. The bonus is that you don’t need to worry about overly flashy design or big logos.

The tailor made range in particular is quite expensive, even more so than regular Jil Sander. These pieces retailed in the $2500-$3000 range here in Japan (Japan is a bit more expensive than the US, although you get the general idea). You would be hard pressed to find a piece this excellent at a better price.

Exterior fabric is a brown cotton blend. The fabric is listed as 95% cotton, 5% “other fibers” which is a bit unusual. I am not sure what the other fibers are in this case. The jacket is also fully lined in cupro, giving this a medium weight overall in my opinion. It is ideal for year round wear. There is a three button closure down the front, evoking a sort of retro-futuristic 1960s inspired design. There are several interior pockets, along with two exterior side pockets. Single rear vent. Horn buttons with discrete branding. You get the idea.

Size is labeled a 48 and fits true. I measure the chest at 20.5” / 52cm, shoulders at 18.5” / 47cm, length at 32” / 82cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 24” / 60cm from the shoulder. The jacket comes in lightly used, good shape. There is a bit of fading in the fabric around the shoulder area but otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Italy.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30. Note that I am selling the matching pants and can offer combined shipping if both pieces are purchased together.
