For sale here is a blazer from the Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme line, their top-end Paris runway collection. Along with Issey Miyake and Comme des Garcons, Yohji is often considered one of the main avant-garde Japanese designers. Each has their own forte: Comme des Garcons is often highly conceptual, making “ugly” clothes somehow work, Miyake tends to go for the technical side of things, developing unique fabrics and techniques. Yohji is more of a romantic, producing most things in black, usually in loose silhouettes. Designs are deceptively simplistic, where if you’re at all familiar with Yohji you know that there’s always more going on than meets the eye.
With Yohji fabric and drape are all-important. All of his textiles are custom and they’re some of the best out there. Corners are never cut with any of Yohji’s labels, and with Pour Homme you can expect you’re getting the best of the best and something totally unique. Fit is also given the utmost care, where garments are intended to be loose fitting while at the same time flattering, leaving just the right amount to the imagination and likewise ensuring a high degree of comfort.
Here we have one of Yohji’s many iterations of the classic blazer. They always use the same basic form, but always incorporate some kind of unique twist in the design. Material is Yohji’s signature 100% wool gabardine fabric. This is a lighter weight wool, one that is ideal for year-round wear. Aside from the middle of the summer, it is one of those pieces that insulates when cold and is breathable when hot. It also has a very nice drape to it, which is why it is one of Yohji’s favored materials. Pretty much every collection he releases through the Pour Homme line will have multiple pieces featured in this gabardine. It is also partially lined in the rear and in the body in cupro, adding a bit of insulation and making it easier to take the jacket on and off.
Silhouette is based on the classic three button blazer, where the twist comes with the side pockets. Side pockets have a flap detail, where the edges of the flaps are intentionally not secured to the jacket. This allows a more three dimensional shape for the pocket flaps and creates a subtle accent. Fit is more straightforward in this case. This isn’t one of his super oversized pieces, and should be pretty easily integrated into most wardrobes. Still, it’s a comfortable fit, in no way constricting.
If you’re at all familiar with Yohji you know that while he has some of the highest quality standards out there, his clothes don’t come cheap. Retail on this jacket was around $1000 in Japan, and would have been even more if you could find it abroad. This piece is super rare to get at really any price, but get it here at the cheapest price around.
