Junya Watanabe Man comme des garcons 2007 wrinkle processed wool sweater, size M

$54.99

For sale here is a sweater from Junya Watanabe, a part of the Comme Des Garcons family of labels. CDG is well regarded as being the foundation of Japanese avant-garde fashion and still remains at the forefront. Junya Watanabe has been very influential in this world, often producing high quality designs inspired by classic work and military wear but at the same time often something pretty different as well.

This sweater comes from 2007 and is a good illustration of Junya’s more avant-garde side. Silhouette is based on the classic v-neck sweater and is pretty straightforward, although the fabric and design have otherwise been switched around. Material is a 96% wool, 2% polyester, 2% cotton blend which has been given a wrinkle processing. Fabric is made to look intentionally bunched up and wrinkled and as such has a very unique texture to it. You won’t come across anything quite like it elsewhere. There are also yellow lines incorporated on the neckline and sides of the arms on the front and back. It is the sort of piece that is visually striking on closer examination, but at the same time discreet enough not call an inordinate amount of attention to it.

Pretty much all Junya Watanabe and Comme des Garcons pieces are produced in very limited quantities, where once an idea is examined for a particular season it is almost never retried. Comme des Garcons pieces are also ridiculously expensive at retail, but get a pretty unique piece here at the cheapest price around.

Size is labeled a medium and fits true if a bit loose. I measure the chest at 21”, shoulders at 18”, length at 28” and sleeves at 26” from the shoulder. The sweater comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.

Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $26.
