For sale here is a button down shirt from Junya Watanabe, a part of the Comme Des Garcons universe of labels and arguably one of the more well-known. This shirt comes from the spring-summer 2019 collection and is a good example of Junya’s current direction, where he often reinterprets traditional workwear clothing in a patchwork sort of fashion.
The main material here is an indigo dyed chambray fabric, coming in a 75% cotton / 25% linen blend, with an embroidered flower motif throughout. This is already a high quality fabric and has been given the patchwork treatment. Silhouette is based on the classic short sleeve work shirt but has been tweaked a fair amount. The button placket, for example, opens up toward the bottom and has some interesting white stitching on both sides. That stitching incorporates some interior reinforcements in a different fabric, only visible when it is not being worn. Rear shoulders have a different, solid indigo chambray fabric along with a white canvas pull, while the side gussets use a third plaid fabric.
As you can probably tell, a huge amount of work goes into these pieces. Nobody else does it quite like Junya. The Junya Watanabe line, like pretty much all of the Comme Des Garcons universe, never comes cheap. These shirts retailed in the $500 range outside of Japan and are now long gone.
Size is labeled a large and fits somewhat relaxed. I measure the chest at 23” / 58cm, shoulders at 19” / 48cm, and length at 30” / 76cm from the base of the neck. The shirt comes in lightly used, excellent shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $24.
