Up for sale here is a really nice piece from the Stone Island label, one of the leading labels going at the moment, especially in terms of fabric development and dyeing technology. Stone Island have been active for quite a while now, originally designed by the highly influential Massimo Osti, and even now continue to push things forward in new and interesting ways.
This piece comes in Stone Island’s signature “tela stella” fabric. Tela Stella dates back to the founding of Stone Island in 1982, an original fabric designed by Massimo Osti meant to convey the feeling of heavily used military tarps. Fabric is 100% cotton but has been subjected to extensive treatments to make it both highly wind resistant and nicely broken in. It is meant to have a pleasantly uneven, vintage look.
There are all kinds of details incorporated here as well. Front has a large zip under a button closure, giving you a lot of flexibility in how to wear the piece. You can wear it as a coverall or blazer or zipped all the way up if you prefer. All buttons are branded here. Cuffs also have adjustable snaps allowing you to get the fit to your liking. Left arm has the stone island badge, and there is an additional buttoned area on the interior where you can store the badge if you like. Front has a semi-hidden zipped chest pocket and two large side pockets, while the rear has a double vent with snap button closure. One of the more unique and subtle details here is the gusseted underarms, where the underarm seam can actually move with your arms, creating a more ergonomic and comfortable fit.
As you can hopefully see, there is a lot of work that went into this piece, both in terms of fabric and design. This is military inspired and highly functional, giving you an array of storage, keeping you warm and dry, and giving flexibility in how you can wear it. Of course, retail on any Stone Island products is far from cheap, where more recent iterations of these pieces were in the neighborhood of $1200 new (and could cost more depending on your location). This particular model is now sold out, but get it here at a much more reasonable price.
Size is labeled a large and fits more like a standard medium. I measure the chest at 21” / 54cm, shoulders at 17.5” / 45cm, length at 29” / 73cm from the base of the neck, and sleeves at 25” / 63cm from the shoulder. The piece comes in lightly used, very good shape with no holes, tears or stains. Made in Italy.
Shipping from Japan to anywhere will be $30.
